You might be wondering where the heck the rest of 2023's Fifty Books Challenge is and where THIS year's challenge is. It is, after all, the end of June. I hear you.

But life and my own writing projects are taking up a lot of my time!


SO THE FIFTY BOOKS CHALLENGE IS TEMPORARILY
ON INDEFINITE HIATUS.

I do hope of course to bring it back eventually! But I can't say when.

In the meantime, though, feel free to enjoy posts from 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2020, and why not leave a comment if you're feeling generous.

Hope to get back to snarking and ranting and raving eventually.

Greetings, loyal readers! The new calendar year is nearly upon us!

You must be looking forward to the end of the Fifty Books Challenge of 2023 and eagerly anticipating what I'm reading and writing about in 2023! I am too. And I promise the rest of the books I've read in 2023 are coming, as is my summation of the year and welcoming the new one and the books and reviews that promises.

But I had a very, very busy holiday season, and an even busier few months before that, so a lot of work is going to have to be backdated and take time. It's coming, though, and I promise all the books under 2023 are books I read in 2023.

I can't wait for you to read all about it.

Tempus fugit, even in the 2020s it seems a bit different. But this year marks the THIRD anniversary of this blog! There was 2020, 2021, last year and now here we are!

Same rules as usual: I don't count books I've read before, and I don't count books I don't finish.

I've been fortunate enough to have my readership be bigger than ever, and I'm incredibly grateful to all of you, including you, you here reading this right now! I've also added a FAQ page which hopefully clears some things up, especially for new readers.

So at the time of this writing, I'm about to celebrate the third anniversary of my bringing back the Fifty Books Challenge! I have a feeling that I'll be updating this post from time to time, so I'll time stamp it accordingly.

I've had a wonderful influx of readers and given the questions that seem to come up a lot, I think it's time I did a FAQ post, so here we are.

Greetings, loyal readers! The new calendar year is now upon us!

You may be looking forward to the end of the Fifty Books Challenge of 2022 and eagerly anticipating what I'm reading and writing about in 2023! (Then again, perhaps not. Either way, you're here, aren't you?!) And I promise the rest of the books I've read in 2022, including a very special edition I've been saving for months to be the last book of the year, are coming, as is my summation of the year and welcoming the new one and the books and reviews that promises!

But I had a very, very busy holiday season, including some technical difficulties with winter storms, so a lot of work is going to have to be backdated and take time. It's coming, though, and I promise all the books under 2022 are books I read in 2022.

Fifty Books Challenge 2022!

We are somehow now in the THIRD year of this challenge! There was 2020, last year, and now here we are!

Same rules still apply: I don't count books I've read before, and I don't count books I don't finish. If you've ever wondered during a snarky review "Well, why are you reading it if it sucks?!" it's because if I don't finish it, it doesn't qualify for the challenge.

I do this challenge primarily because it encourages me to remember to make time to read new things for fun and also to make time to write about them. That said, I do like talking about books with other people.

2021's Fifty Books Challenge

It's a brand new year!
With last year's successful (in that it was instituted at all, which for 2020 is a big deal) challenge done, it's time to start a new one.

My usual rules apply: I don't count books I've read before, and I don't count books I don't finish.

If last year has taught us anything, it's that despite our best goals, life can take you by surprise. I hope to at least beat last year's amount of books read and reviewed, but anything that gets published obviously is going to be a source of pride.

Wrapping Up 2020's 50 Books Challenge

2020 is finally over, but we've still got a couple loose ends. And I KNOW you want to hear my thoughts!

No? Well, come for the snark then.

At any rate, like most carbon-based life forms, 2020 caught me by surprise. I knew going into this challenge that I might not make fifty given how my schedule has changed since I used to do the challenge, but I wasn't expecting the level of comfort food rereads I was going to need, or the way that doomscrolling and other 2020 interruptions would interfere with my plans.
Still, we've got a solid 14 books reviewed, and I'm going to talk about them! I actually have finished three more, but didn't get the reviews written in the holiday chaos. I debated what to do, and decided to put them with 2021's books, both for clarity's sake and for the fact at least one of the 2020 reviews I started in 2019, so it all comes out in the end.

I liked the old "year in review" categories I used when I wrote about this before, so I'm going to keep them, but I'm adding a new one. Watch 'til the end for a special shoutout!

Introducing the Fifty Books Challenge!

So on my old, still active blogs, I used to review books.

I had a lot of fun doing it. It was called the Fifty Books Challenge.

I started in 2009. The last year I did it was 2015 and I stopped about halfway through and didn't pick it up again.

UNTIL NOW.

My leisure time is different now. A good portion of the reading I currently do isn't for a book I can review on this platform. I don't know for sure if I'll make it to fifty, or have time to document all of them. But it's a goal and I'm going to try.

That's part of what this blog is about! My old blog sites where I posted reviews are sadly abandoned places (even though I still check in and keep active, although not with the frequency I once did). This new venture is a way to keep the project active.

Why? Because I absolutely loved doing it, I miss doing it, and it's a great way to talk about books I've read.

So welcome to the new Fifty Books Challenge!

I'm holding my old rules: I don't count books I've read before, and I don't count books I don't finish. I can't promise any kind of regularity, but I can promise that I'll do my best to stick with it.
